Mr. Aubrey Li Kwok Sing – Founder and Chairman, Board of Advisors
Mr. Li is Non-Executive Director of The Bank of East Asia. Mr. Li possesses extensive experience in the fields of investment banking, merchant banking and capital markets. He is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Café de Coral Holdings Limited, China Everbright International Limited, Kunlun Energy Company Limited, Kowloon Development Co, Ltd, and Director of AFFIN Bank Berhad. Mr. Li has an ScB in Civil Engineering from Brown University and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University.
Mr. David Yu – Founder of MCL and Senior Advisor
David is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales with over 40 years of experience in the fields of auditing, corporate finance, financial investigation and corporate management. David was a senior member of the management team of Playmates Group between 1995-1998, responsible for devising and implementing the group’s financial strategies, in addition to his role in general management. Prior to joining Playmates, David was a Partner of Coopers & Lybrand (now merged as PricewaterhouseCoopers) in Hong Kong. He was instrumental in setting up the Corporate Finance Division of the firm and led a large number of merger and acquisition transactions, IPO and corporate finance advisory assignments in Greater China for Hong Kong corporations, private equity groups and multinationals.
Currently, David is an independent non-executive director of several companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange including Chinese Resources Gas Group Limited, Haier Electronics Groaup Company Limited, Media Chinese International Limited, New Century Asset Management Limited, the Manager of New Century Real Estate Investment Trust and Sateri Holdings Limited. He is also serving as a member of the Investment Committee and of the Audit Committee of Employees Retraining Board, a statutory body established under the Employees Retraining Ordinance, Hong Kong and of the Disciplinary Panel of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Brian Lee – Founder of MCL and Senior Advisor
Mr. Lee is a senior business executive with a proven record in corporate restructuring and mentoring companies in different stages of development. Prior to the establishment of MCL Partners, Mr. Lee was the CEO of Giordano. In the earlier part of his career, Mr. Lee spent more than 10 years as a senior banking executive with a number of local and international financial institutions.
Mr. William Choy – Senior Advisor
Mr. Choy is an expert in Asia equities markets. Mr. Choy fulfilled various senior positions in local brokerage companies in Hong Kong from 1972-1986 prior to becoming Joint Managing Director and Co-Head of Distribution of SG Warburg Far East/SBC Warburg Asia (1986-1997). Mr. Choy was subsequently appointed as Head of Equities, Asia Pacific at Salomon Smith Barney Asia Ltd. (1997-2002) and Chairman -Asia Equities Division at Citigroup Global Markets Asia Ltd. (2002-2007) most recently. From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Choy acted as Managing Partner of Cornucopia Capital Partners Ltd., an Asian-focused quant fund, and was in charge of risk management and business development. Mr. Choy joined China Value Investment Ltd. as Chairman in October 2010 overseeing the business development and risk management of the company until August 2012.
Dr. Barry Buttifant – Senior Advisor
Dr. Buttifant is a Senior Advisor of MCL Financial Group Ltd and currently serves as an independent non- executive director of two public listed companies in Hong Kong: Giordano International Limited and Daiwa Associate Holdings Limited; and two US public companies – Global-Tech Advanced Innovations Inc (NASDAQ) and China Nepstar Chain Drugstore Limited (NYSE). Dr. Buttifant was the Executive Director of Hsin Chong Construction Group; the Chief Executive Officer of IDT International Limited; Director of Mission Hills Group, he also served as a Principal of KLC Kennic Lui & Co; Managing Director of Wo Kee Hong (Holdings) Limited; Finance Director of Polly Peck Group and Managing Director of Sime Darby Hong Kong Limited.
Barry is fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, F.C.C.A. (UK); Chartered Management Institute, F.C.M.I. Dr. Enzio von Pfeil – Senior Advisor
Enzio von Pfeil was born in Namibia and has lived in America, Germany, England and Hong Kong.
Schooled primarily in America, he studied economics inter alia under Nobel-Laureate Friedrich von Hayek, in Freiburg, Germany. Having won two prestigious scholarships, he completed his PhD on German direct investments in the United States in record time.
He has been a commercial economist throughout his working life. Since 1980, he has worked with the leading banks of their day. As a Treasury Economist with Morgan Guaranty Trust (New York), J. Henry Schroder Wagg (London), and as Chief Regional Economist for Smith New Court Far East from 1986 as well as with SG Warburg Securities Far East from 1992. After UBS bought Warburgs I992 remained Chief Regional Economist for other groups.
Utilizing his proprietary Economic Clock®, Enzio is the Investment Strategist for Private Capital Ltd., whom he has accredited his SFC licenses 4 and 9 to. Here in Hong Kong. Enzio also is a sought-after speaker, as well as contributor to Bloomberg TV, Bloomberg Radio, RTHK Radio and Reuters TV (also in India). He has written three major books on German direct investment in the United States, how to control currency risk and on how America/s multinationals influence her trade balance.
He has been happily married in Hong Kong since 1991.
Ms. Patricia Thomas – Senior Advisor
Patricia Thomas, is Founder and CEO of IRM Family Office Ltd. She has more than 40 years of investment banking experience, and have been on both the buy and the sell side of banking. Patricia began her career first as an auditor, then specialised in international tax with Whinney Murray Ernst and Ernst (now Ernst and Young). She later went into industry as a Financial Controller with the Dodwell International Buying Offices Group and Labtest Group in Asia where she managed the financial and treasury functions of the Groups. Her responsibilities covered the entire spectrum of taxation through to project management and reorganisations. 1n 1984, Patricia moved into banking as the Head of Corporate Finance for BNP IFS, and subsequently as Head of Private Banking, Asia, for Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company (now JP Morgan) and Banque Indosuez (now Credit Agricole). She was also a director of the banks various funds and Trust Companies. During this period she won for Banque Indosuez the coveted title of “the most Innovative Bank in Asia” for two years running. She is a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. She now manages her own multi-family office which is also a platform for Mergers and Acquisitions as well as Private Equity.
